CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's tennis team will continue a long stretch of matches away from home on Saturday, March 5 as they take on the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks in a non-conference clash.
The Vikings enter the weekend with an 0-5 record after a competitive opening start to their spring season. The team was defeated in their last outing against the Coe Kohawks last Sunday, falling by a score of 8-1. The Augie men fell behind after the Kohawks swept doubles play to take a 3-0 lead in the math. Coe went on to take five of six singles to pick up the home victory by a score of 8-1.
Nicolas Navarro picked up a hard-fought win at No. 5 singles, defeating his opponent in three sets by a score of 6-2, 4-6, 10-8.
Illinois Tech currently sports a 1-3 overall record after falling to Lake Forest 5-4 in their most recent outing. The Scarlet Hawks defeated Wabash 6-3 in mid-February for their lone win of the season. Illinois Tech was 8-1 a season ago and qualified for the NCAA DIII National Tournament, where they earned a first round win over St. Scholastica.Â
Augustana is 2-0 all-time against Illinois Tech, winning their last encounter in 2019 at home by a score of 7-2.
