Box Score 2 HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- The Augustana Vikings women's tennis team split a pair of matches on Tuesday down in South Carolina, falling to the Union Dutchwomen by a score of 6-3 before knocking off Hollins 9-0 in their second match of the day.
Match One (L 6-3 vs. Union)
It was a hard-fought start to the match as each of the three doubles matches saw the losing team with at least five points.
Grace Rider and
Lauren Oda notched a win at No. 2 doubles with a final score of 8-5 to give the Vikings a point heading into singles. Union secured wins at No. 1 and 3 doubles by a score of 8-6.
Both the top two singles spots went into tiebreaker after Union and Augustana split each of the first two sets.
Lily Schoeck was narrowly defeated at No. 1 after winning the first set, while
Michaela Magee defeated her opponent at No. 2 by a final of 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (9). Oda continued her success into singles with a 6-1, 6-3 No. 4 victory. The rest of the matches went Union's way to give them the 6-3 triumph.
Match Two (W 9-0 vs. Hollins)
The Vikings were nearly perfect across the board in their second match of the day as they defeated Hollins in a quick 9-0 contest. Augie won all three doubles matches, led by a flawless 8-0 victory at No. 3 from
Mia Reese and Magee.
In singles, positions 2-6 all were victorious with 6-0, 6-0 final scores. Oda closed out her 4-0 day with a win at No. 4 singles for the second consecutive match.
Following Tuesday's results, Augie sits at 6-11 on the season. The team will be back in action on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. CST versus Allegheny.
