HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- The Augustana Vikings men's and women's tennis teams will head to South Carolina beginning on Monday, March 21 to compete in four matches each over the course of the week.
Both teams kick off their stay on Monday, with the men taking on Carleton and the women facing George Fox. The Augie men are 0-3 all-time against the Carleton, who enter the week 6-1 overall on the season. The two teams last met back in Eau Claire, Wis. in 2019, resulting in a 8-1 win for the Knights. For the Viking women, this will be their first ever meeting against George Fox. The Bruins currently sit at 8-5 on the season and will take on nationally-ranked UW-Whitewater on Sunday before squaring off with the Vikings the following day.
The Augustana men will face the Union Dutchmen on Tuesday, followed by matchups against Lawrence on Wednesday and West Virginia State on Thursday. The Vikings won the only meeting ever between them and the Dutchmen. Augie will face Lawrence an West Virginia State for the first time to close out their trip. Union sports a 1-2 record heading into the spring break trip, while Lawrence and West Virginia State both sit five games under .500 at 2-7 and 1-6, respectively.
The Viking women will have two matches on Tuesday, one against Hollins, who does not have an official nickname, and the second against Union. It will be the first encounter against both teams for the Vikings. Hollins currently is 2-5 on the season, while Union is 1-2.
Augustana closes out their trip with a contest against the Allegheny Gators, who are 3-5 this season. This will be the first-ever matchup between the two programs.
