WINSTON SALEM, N.C. -- Carson Eipers of Augustana indoor track & field placed fourth in the men's weight throw event at the NCAA DIII Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday to land him All-American status, becoming the first-ever in school history.

Eipers jumped three spots in the standings after posting his best toss of 19.03m in his sixth and final attempt. His first throw of 18.41m ultimately clinched him All-American rank as he sat in seventh entering his final go. The 19.03m heave bumped him up to fourth overall, making him one of just four participants to clear the 19-meter mark. The junior entered the national meet with the third-best mark of the season at 19.32m. The fourth-place standing is the highest finish for a Viking in the event in program history.

Alex Kristeller of Widener took first with a throw of 20.39m.

In addition to his All-American honor, Eipers also placed third at the CCIW Championships in late February to give him All-CCIW recognition. He currently holds the top three throws all-time for Augustana, breaking his own record twice this season.

Eipers and the rest of the team will shift their focus to the outdoor season, which begins Saturday, March 26 at Washington University in St. Louis.
