WHITEWATER, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings women's tennis team will return to action on Saturday, March 12 after two weeks off to take on the No. 33 ranked UW-Whitewater Warhawks on the road.
The Vikings were defeated in a close 5-4 battle with Coe back on February 27, the team's first dual match of the spring season. Augie took a 2-1 lead into singles following wins in doubles from
Lauren Oda/
Grace Rider at No. 2 and
Mia Reese/
Michaela Magee in the No. 3 position. The tandem of Oda and Rider were victorious 8-2, while Reese and Magee earned an 8-3 win for Augie. Augustana and Coe split the first two matches of singles to bring it to a 3-2 advantage for the Vikings. The Kohawks charged back to win three of the final and escape with the one-point win.
Whitewater enters the weekend with a 10-1 record after winning their conference tournament back in October. The Warkhawks have played just one contest this spring, resulting in their lone loss of the season so far in a 7-0 defeat to Northern Illinois. In the first edition of the ITA top 40 poll that came out on March 10, Whitewater was ranked 33rd.
The Vikings are 2-10 all-time against the Warhawks and have lost seven straight matches in the series dating back to 2013. In their most recent outing last season, Whitewater won by a score of 9-0 in Rock Island.
