ELMHURST, Ill. – The Augustana women's basketball team (11-11, 5-8) had their four-game winning streak halted this evening in a 55-44 loss at Elmhurst. The Bluejays' win (3-18, 1-12) was their first CCIW victory of the season.
Both teams began the game with a lackluster offensive effort as Augustana outscored Elmhurst 10-6 in the opening period. Both offenses found some rhythm before halftime, though, with a combined 31 points in the second quarter. At the break, Augustana led 25-22.
After halftime, the Vikings struggled to regain their momentum from the first two periods. Augie managed just eight total points in the third quarter and 11 in the fourth. Elmhurst did just enough with 33 second half points on their way to the 11-point victory.
Macy Beinborn led Augustana with 12 points.
Gabriela Loiz posted a double-double for the Vikings with 11 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
Lauren Hall,
Emily Brenneisen, and
Hannah Simmer each grabbed seven rebounds.
Elmhurst's Ella Riley led all scorers with 18 points to her credit. Kate Matthews also had a solid shooting night with 17 points. The Bluejays' Taylor Harazin had a dominant performance on the glass with 18 rebounds, a career high for the senior center.
The Vikings will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 9 for a pivotal matchup against the Wheaton Thunder.
