DES MOINES, Iowa – Augustana women's wrestling completed their final event of the 2021-22 schedule this weekend at the Grand View Open in Des Moines. The Vikings were one of 30 participating teams including several high-end clubs from the Division II, Division III, NAIA, and NJCAA ranks.
Two Augie women scored team points on the day.
Sawyer Graham and
Abbey Ellis competed in the 155-pound bracket and picked up one win each.
Graham's victory came in the first consolation round over Mayte Villada of Colorado Mesa University by fall. Graham's day ended in the following round when Providence's Sadie Antoque pinned the Viking freshman.
Ellis also wrestled at 155 for Augustana and earned her win in the consolation bracket. She received a bye after dropping the opener to Marlynne Deede of Augsburg and bounced back with a win by fall over Mandy Camacho of Jamestown. William Jewell's Emma Carter halted Ellis' comeback with a pin in the third consolation round.
At 130,
Kara Rohlf received a bye in the first championship round before being pinned by North Central's Niya Teresita Gaines.
Ruby Gerhardt and Sydney Tajkowsksi also had similar results with second-round losses in the championship bracket.
Sandie Pfeil grappled at 123 pounds for the Vikings and, after earning a bye in the first round, came up short against North Central's Asia Nguyen-Smith by tech. fall.
