BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- It was a successful stay for both the Augustana Vikings men's and women's indoor track & field teams at the Illinois Wesleyan Keck DIII Select on Saturday, with the men taking second place and the women earning third.
The Vikings saw another record-breaking performance from
Carson Eipers in the weight throw as he broke his very own school record he set a few weeks ago by the slimmest of margins, winning the event with a toss of 18.43. Eipers previously held the record of 18.42, which he set earlier in the season at St. Ambrose. Also in field events,
Derek Butts took fifth in the pole vault after clearing 4.25m.
Jon Cathcart placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 12.68m, while
Luke Cowan earned fifth in the shot put with a heave of 13.96m.
Alex Jaramillo notched a season best 11.51m toss in the shot put as well.
In the running events,
Seth Sottos won the 60m dash with a a time of 6.95, placing him second all-time in school history. The junior also placed sixth in a jam-packed 200m dash field, with teammate
Connor McBride right behind in eighth in the same event.
Michael Gille placed sixth in the one-mile run with a time of 4:19.89, which sits him just outside the top ten in Augie program history. In the 400m,
Ian Rothery took second with a 51.20 finish.
Judd Anderson secured third in the 60m hurdle race. The Viking relay team of Roherty, McBride,
Dean Check, and
Sylvester Brady tallied second place in the 4x400m out of ten teams.
The Viking men placed second in the meet with a total of 59 points, finishing ahead of both CCIW schools present in Millikin and Illinois Wesleyan.
On the women's side,
Katie Johnston placed third in the 5000m run with a time of 19:09, which is a big personal record for the junior. Teammate
Anna Boardman was right behind in the event with a PR of 19:32.
Jade Johnson placed in the top 15 in the 200m dash with a time of 27.76, which currently places her tied for 15th overall in the event in the CCIW.
Additionally, the Vikings saw two rising performers in Lauren Oelke, who tallied a time of 10.34 in the 60m hurdles, tying a season-best and putting her in 12th overall in the conference, along withÂ
Sammi Anselme, who posted a season best in the triple jump and now sits sixth in the CCIW with a mark of 10.09m.Â
Staying in field events,
Katrina Krebasch finished in third in the high jump with a clearance of 1.60m.
Brooke Ziegenhorn earned top five in the pole vault, while
Heather Michalski came in seventh in the shot put. Michalski also secured a PR in the weight throw at 13.06m.
Afi Gati tied her shot put PR of 10.30m and earned a new career best in the weight with a throw of 12.10m.
The Viking women placed third in the meet with a total of 20.50 points, also ahead of CCIW opponents Millikin and Illinois Wesleyan. To view the meet's results in its entirety, click
