DUBUQUE, Iowa -- The Augustana Vikings men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed in their final meet before the CCIW Championships next weekend, seeing another batch of school and personal records broken during the Solomon Butler Classic at the University of Dubuque.
Carson Eipers continued his record-breaking ways in the weight throw, winning the event by nearly three meters and shattering the school record he set earlier this year with a toss of 19.32m. Eipers now owns the top three marks in Augustana program history. Teammate
Luke Cowan also placed top five in the event with a throw of 15.01m and took fifth in the shot put with a mark of 13.34m.
On the track,
Seth Sottos continues to inch closer to the top of the record book in the 60m, setting a PR by taking a hundredth off of his time at 6.93s to finish in third.
Michael Gille came in fifth in the one-mile run with a time of 4:15.99. Freshman
Alex Gazarek took second in the 3000m, crossing the finish line in 8:58.69. Other notable performances include fifth place in the 60m hurdle from
Judd Anderson (8.70), sixth in the 3000m from
Karsten Zielinski (9:03.33), and three Vikings in the top five of the 200m dash in
Connor McBride, Sottos, and
Ian Rothery.
As a team, the Vikings placed fourth out of nine teams with a team score of 73 points.
On the women's side,
Heather Michalski took sixth in the weight throw and moved to No. 10 all-time in the Augie record book with a toss of 13.65m. The freshman also placed sixth in the shot put following a mark of 11.34m.
Sammi Anselme earned eighth in the triple jump at 9.80m.
Emma Odle grabbed a sixth-place standing in the one-mile run to help lead the Vikings on the track.
Carmen Bruchnak had an impressive showing in the 800m, winning her heat with a time of 2:25.
Irais Tenorio also placed seventh in that race with a time of 2:27.80.
Overall, Augie finished sixth out of nine teams.
Senior pole vaulter
Katrina Krebasch competed at the University of Illinois on Friday at the Illini Classic, where she took second in a field of NCAA DI teams. She finished with a clearance of 3.82m.
The Vikings will be back in action February 25-26 for the CCIW Indoor Championships in Kenosha, Wis.Â
