MOLINE, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's tennis team will play in their first and only non-conference home match this season on Saturday, February 19 when they welcome in the Luther Norse. The contest will take place at the Quad City Tennis Club, an indoor facility in Moline.
The Vikings are entering Saturday's matchup following two losses in Michigan against high-level competition. Augie fell to Cornerstone and Kalamzaoo on the road last weekend to kick off their spring slate.
Timothee Philip and
Gabriel Luna both earned singles wins for the Vikings over the trip, while
Justin Cassens and
Nicolas Navarro went 2-0 in doubles matches.
Luther currently sits at 1-4 on the season. The team fell 9-0 in their most recent contest against UW-Whitewater after picking up their first win in a 6-3 defeat of Grinnell. The Norse have face two other CCIW schools this season so far, falling to both North Central and Wheaton in neutral-site matches. Luther ended the 2021 slate with a 14-5 record and perfect 8-0 mark in their conference. They qualified for the NCAA DIII Tournament where they were defeated in the first round by Kalamazoo. The Norse close out the season ranked in the ITA poll.
This will be the 27th all-time meeting between the two schools, with Luther leading the series 17-9. The Vikings have won two of the last three, but the most recent contest resulted in a 7-2 Norse victory in Decorah, Iowa.
