DAVENPORT, Iowa — The Augustana men's and women's indoor track & field teams completed their first competition of the 2022-23 season this afternoon on the campus of St. Ambrose University. Both teams placed fourth out of nine teams in attendance at the Frigid Bee Invitational.
For the men, freshman Landon Zimny made an impressive debut in the 6-meter dash, clocking 7.04 for a fifth all-time placement in the Augie record books. Zimny was closely trailed by teammate Braeden Clements, who sprinted a 7.10 time, good for ninth in all-time Vikings history.
Carson Eipers highlighted the Vikings' efforts in the weight throw competition with a hurl of 18.09m, good for second place at the event and third across all Division III tossers. Augie also boasted placements of third and fourth in the pole vault. Reid McNeill and Seth Rohr put together respective vaults of 4.12 and 3.96 meters, the best finishes from any school in attendance.
On the women's side, Rhiannon Marshall registered a top finish in the high jump, turning in a 5'1" leap to lead the Invitational. Marshall's jump was two inches higher than any other participant on Saturday. Remaining in the air, Hannah Johnson tallied a third-place finish in the triple jump, producing a 9.10 meter result.
McKenzie Reser made the all-time list for the Vikings, running a 7.96 time in the 60-meter dash to place her third in Augie history for the event. She clocked a 7.99 time in the finals to earn her second on Saturday.
The Vikings will be back in action January 14, at the Monmouth Midwest Invitational. Start time is still to be determined.
