MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Augustana women's basketball team hits the road to face the Monmouth Fighting Scots for their final game of the 2022 calendar year on Friday, December 30.
The Vikings enter the contest sporting a 7-5 record, dropping their most recent matchup in a low-scoring 56-46 bout with the UW-Platteville Pioneers. After enduring a first-period three-point shooting frenzy, the Vikings clawed back to trail by just three at the half. A low-scoring third period from both teams put the contest in striking position for Augustana entering the fourth quarter. Augie stumbled in the final frame, shooting just 3-12, while the Pioneers tacked on 16 points to wrestle away the non-conference game.
Eight different Vikings contributed scores in the loss, with Carly Stone leading the way offensively, producing an eight-point effort. Augie bested Platteville on the glass, out-rebounding the Pioneers 38-26.
The Fighting Scots enter Friday's contest with a 5-6 season record. Monmouth averages 62.9 points per game and is looking to halt a four-game skid dating back to late November. In their most recent matchup, the Fighting Scots led for the first three periods but faltered in the final frame to drop by a 57-52 final. Audrey Law led the scoring effort with 12 points.
Augie is currently on a seven-game win streak in the all-time series against Monmouth and boasts a 29-5 overall record. The most recent matchup between the two programs came on the same date in 2021, when the Vikings secured a 79-54 home victory.
Start time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. from the Huff Athletics Center. The stream link for Friday's matchup can be found here.
