Augie wrestling teams upended at home by nationally-ranked Cardinals

Thursdays contest marked the first home dual in program history for Augie women's wrestling

ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana men's and women's wrestling teams completed a home dual on Thursday night against CCIW foe North Central. The men's team was dropped by a 31-9 score to the No. 5 ranked Cardinals, while the women's team was stifled 45-0 against the No. 2 ranked Cardinals. 

The Augie men earned three victories on the night, while none were recorded on the women's side. A.J. Joyner picked up a win for the Vikings, besting Joey Jens in the 174 class and securing an overtime victory via takedown. Joyner leads Augie in win/loss record for dual play this season, boasting a 5-1 record. 

Elsewhere, Jacob Badger and Josh Woodrey conquered their respective classes to conclude the night for Augustana. Badger pulled away late in the 197 class, securing a 6-1 decision victory over Rickie Clark. In the heavyweight class, the match sat at 1-1 heading into an overtime period, where Woodrey would eventually prevail with a sudden death takedown to win 3-1. 

Thursday's contest marked the first home dual in program history for Augie women's wrestling. 

The Augie men's team resumes action on Saturday, December 17, for the Gator Boot Duals in Nashville, Tenn. At the Duals, the Vikings will face Huntingdon, Dubuque and Alma. The women will take a near month-long break before rejoining the men for the Fred Johnson Duals held at the Carver Center on January 7.
