ROCK ISLAND – The Augustana men's and women's wrestling teams return to the Carver Center to face the North Central Cardinals in a home dual on Thursday, December 15.
The Augie women's team is already familiar with the Cardinals this season, facing them as recently as Sunday, December 11, at the North Central Invite. The Vikings finished 11th out of 19 teams in attendance, highlighted by a fifth-place finish from Sawyer Graham in the 170 class. Elsewhere, Abbey Ellis earned the Vikings 5.5 points in the 155 class by notching two victories on Sunday.
North Central's women's team is ranked second in Division III and enters Thursday's dual boasting a perfect 10-0 record this season. The Cardinals recently placed first at their home invitational, leading the tournament with a 156.5 score.
The North Central women currently hold a 1-0 advantage in the all-time series over Augie, dating back to November 24, 2021, winning the lone meeting last season 40-4.
The Vikings men's team sports a 2-3 overall record and enters Thursday on the heels of a three-dual skid against Simpson, Central, and Millikin to open December. At home, Augie is 1-0 from inside the Carver Center, besting Elmhurst in their opening dual of the season.
The Cardinal are ranked fifth entering the dual and possess a 4-1 record this season. North Central recently placed second out of 12 teams at their home invitational on December 10. Three wrestlers (Julian Valtierrez, Robert Precin, and Javen Estrada) earned top finishes at the home Invite.
Augustana currently holds a 31-12 record all-time over North Central. In the most recent matchup between the two programs, the Cardinals toppled the Vikings on December 24, 2021, in Naperville by a 42-3 score.
