Women's basketball dismantles Webster to improve to 5-1

Four Vikings notched double figures in the win

ROCK ISLAND – The Augustana Vikings women's basketball team improved to 5-1 on Saturday, defeating the visiting Webster Gorloks by a score of 87-64 inside the Carver Center.

Augie came out firing from beyond the arc, shooting 6-9 in the opening period with five Vikings contributing. The Vikings shot at a 51 percent clip from the field, resulting in a 26-point effort. The Vikings continued to move the ball effectively against the Gorloks for the remainder of the first half, netting 15 assists in the opening 20 minutes. Augie held the lead for the entirety of the half, possessing an 18-point advantage heading into the locker room. 

Gabriela Loiz opened the second half with two three-point makes to continue the Vikings' momentum. Both teams shot 50 percent from deep, while Webster held a slight advantage shooting the ball to edge Augie in the third quarter by a 17-16 point total. 

In the fourth, Augustana again produced an efficient period on the glass, hauling in 13 boards for the second consecutive quarter. The Vikings made the most of their second chance attempts, turning them into 13 points as the Gorloks appeared to be clawing their way back into the contest. The Vikings also secured the easy attempts, shooting 8-8 from the free throw line to close out the game at an 87-64 final. 

Case played a vital role for the Vikings, filling up the box score with an all-around performance that included 14 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, and five steals. Beinborn and Loiz led the scoring effort for the Vikings, dropping 18 points each. As a team, Augie assisted on 24 of their 29 made shots, their highest assist total since tallying 25 against North Park in 2018.

The Vikings move to 5-1 with the win over Webster and will face Wheaton in another home contest on Wednesday, November 30. Start time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from the Roy J. Carver Center.
