Men's water polo meets Stanford to begin MPSF Championships

The Cardinal are ranked No. 4 in NCAA DI

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The Augustana Vikings men's water polo team will head to the west coast on Friday, November 18 to begin the MPSF Championships at the home of the University of Southern California. Augie has earned the No. 2 seed overall and will meet the No. 7 seed Stanford Cardinal in round one.

Augustana enters with a 12-5 overall record and finished the regular season with a perfect 5-0 record in the MPSF East division. The Vikings are 6-0 against MPSF East teams this season and are coming off of a third-place finish in the DIII Eastern Championships after knocking off conference foe Austin in overtime. Augustana has won two straight overall and three of their last four after knocking off DII McKendree at home by a score of 17-16 in their latest outing.

Five Vikings were named MPSF All-Conference this week, the most of any school in the East division. Declan Hutton earned First Team honors while also grabbing the East's Newcomer of the Year award. Mark Addison (First Team), Colin McDowell (First Team), Oskar Bannister (First Team), and Joseph Addison (Second Team) were also recognized.

After earning the top spot in the East, the Vikings will face the lowest seed in the West in Stanford, who come in ranked No. 4 in the latest DI poll. The Cardinal enter with a 20-4 overall record, but an 0-3 mark in the MPSF. Stanford is 3-4 in their last seven games after beginning the year with 17 consecutive wins. The Cardinal fell to No. 1 ranked California, who earned the top seed in the upcoming conference tournament.

This will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
