KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Augustana men's and women's wrestling teams completed their first road dual on Tuesday. The men's team worked past Carthage by a 43-6 score, while the women's team captured a statement 24-13 victory over the No. 20 ranked Firebirds.
The Augie men made it two straight dual wins in as many tries to begin the season. After falling in the night's first contest, the Vikings did not drop another match.
Trevor Boryla got the Vikings on the board in the 133 class, besting Sebastian Rosales via a 16-0 tech fall at the 3:41 mark.
Kameron Hanel followed up Boryla in a close match, conquering the 141 class with a 6-4 decision.
Alex Cruz won dominantly at the 149 level via a 15-0 tech fall at the 4:51 mark.
Chase Clark (157) kept the winning night going for the Vikings, defeating Zaren Anderson in a 7-6 decision that came down to the final seconds.
Rounding out the night for the Vikings were
Jack Patting,
Clay DeBaillie and
A.J. Joyner. Patting secured the 165 class victory by pinning Maxwell Schmitt at the 2:12 mark. DeBaillie conquered the 184 class with a pin, while Joyner wrapped up Tuesday nights entanglements for Augie with an overtime 8-6 sudden victory decision. Additionally, Augie claimed two forfeit victories at the 197 and 285 levels.
The Viking women's team also had multiple forfeits fall in their favor at the 101, 109, 170, and 191 levels. As for physical triumphs,
Hannah Suboni-Kaufman captured a 15-0 tech fall victory at the 5:38 mark over Karla Topete.
Aine Moffit followed up Suboni-Kaufman, winning by fall at the 143 level. The two pin's propelled Augie to their first dual victory of the season and the second in program history.
The Augie wrestling teams are in action again on November 20 at the Albion Invite. The women's team begins action at 9:00 a.m., while the men's team starts at 12:00 p.m. Live result links can be found
