NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's volleyball team will hit the road for their opening match of the CCIW Tournament on Tuesday, November 1 as they get set to take on the North Central Cardinals.
Augie finished the regular season 16-11 and 4-4 in conference to earn the No. 5 seed in this year's CCIW Tournament. The Vikings fell to Carroll in their most-recent match, defeated in five sets by the visiting Pioneers. Carroll grabbed the first set, but were met with back-to-back wins from Augie before grabbing the final two games.
Caroline Hurst led the Vikings' attack with 15 kills, while
Amelie Baehr-Ross secured 38 assists and 12 digs. The 16 wins for the Vikings currently tie them for most in a season since 2018.
North Central enters Tuesday's matchup with a 14-10 overall record and 4-4 mark. The Cardinals earned the No. 4 seed due to head-to-head tiebreaker over the Vikings. North Central has lost six of their last eight contests, but defeated Illinois Tech 3-2 in their most recent outing on Saturday. The Cardinals have dropped three straight matches versus CCIW opponents after beginning the conference slate 4-1.
The Cardinals defeated the Vikings in their earlier-season meeting in Rock Island, winning in consecutive sets. North Central leads the all-time series 29-28-1, but Augustana has won four of the last six.
