ERIE, Pa. -- The Augustana Vikings men's water polo team will be back in action on Saturday, October 22 when they take on the Connecticut College Camels in the first round of the DIII Eastern Championships on the campus of Penn State Behrend.
Augie enters the weekend with a 9-4 overall weekend and earned the No. 3 seed in the upcoming eastern championship tournament. The Vikings are 6-1 vs. teams competing in the tournament this weekend, defeating Penn State Behrend twice, Washington & Jefferson twice, and Connecticut and Austin once each. Augustana's lone loss came to Johns Hopkins, who was currently ranked No. 4 at the time, by a final of 17-12.Â
It has been nearly a month since the Vikings last played, finishing up with a 2-2 record at the Air Force Rare Air Invite. The team knocked off Long Island and Ottawa (Ariz.) before falling to Air Force and Biola to close out their stay.
Connecticut comes in with a 1-8 overall record and earned the No. 6 seed in the DIII Eastern Championships. The Camels are coming off of a 17-4 defeat to DII Gannon in their most recent outing. Connecticut's lone win this season came in a 10-7 defeat of Penn State Behrend back on September 18.
This will be the third-ever meeting between the Vikings and Camels, with Augie previously winning both. The two teams met earlier this season in Sherman, Texas, resulting in a 23-10 victory for Augustana.
The winner of this game will face the winner of No. 2 seed Johns Hopkins and No. 7 seed Penn State Behrend later on Saturday. The two teams who lost will also square off. Augustana will have one game on Sunday, with that matchup pending the results of the previous two contests.
Start time is scheduled for 9:20 a.m. CST. Live video of the contest can be streamed
