Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's tennis claimed a come-from-behind victory on Thursday over the North Park Vikings, winning by a score of 6-3 in their final road contest of the fall season.
North Park grabbed the early lead in the match, winning two of three close battles in doubles play.
Caitlyn Hanulikova and
Natasha Gauerke earned the first win of the afternoon for either team, taking No. 2 doubles by a final of 8-5 before the home team secured wins at the No. 1 and 3 slots. North Park led 2-1 heading into singles.
Hannah Colbert evened the match at two wins apiece following her 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles. Building off of their win in doubles, Hanulikova and Gaurke each picked up a win in singles at No. 2 and 5 to complete their 2-0 days, while
Michaela Magee bounced back from a first-set loss at No. 3 with two wins to take her match.
Maitreyi Shrikhande made quick work of her opponent at No. 6 to round out the winning effort for the Vikings.
"We had a slow start in doubles today, but we really picked it up in singles," said head coach David DeSimone. "Hannah and Caitlyn started us up with two quick wins on the singles court, which turned the momentum our way. We're happy to come out of Chicago with a win today."
With the victory, Augie improves to 4-3 on the season. The Vikings will close out their CCIW regular-season slate on Saturday, October 15 when they host the Carthage Firebirds. Start time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. from the Lower Campus Courts.
