ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings swimming and diving teams split a home dual meet with the visiting Wheaton Thunder on Saturday. The Augie women defeated the Thunder by a score of 121-94, with the men falling to their CCIW opponent by a final of 112-91.
"I am extremely proud of the way our team stood up and fought in every race and for every finish," said head coach
Dan Lloyd. "Everyone did their job and showed great heart."
It is the second straight win overall for the Viking women against the Thunder after going 30 years since their last win in the series. The victory concludes a perfect 4-0 dual meet slate for the women as they prepare for CCIW swimming and diving championships in mid-February.
In relays, the team of
Madelynn Marunde,
Aviana Zahara,
Zoe Heiar, and
Isabelle Seten took first in the 200 medley with a time of 1:52.08, a full second faster than the second-place finishers from Wheaton. Also in the 200 freestyle relay, Augie took first following a 1:40.73 time from Zahara,
Hailey Glasnovich,
Dominique Valentine, and
Isabelle Sansom.
Individual winners on the women's side include:
The Vikings placed swimmers in the top four of the 50-yard freestyle.
On the men's side, the Vikings earned a first-place finish in the 200 free relay as
Albert Buvary,
Joshua Valentine,
Isaiah Valentine, and
Jack Blumenfeld won the event by just .02 seconds with a mark of 1:27.92.

Near the end of the meet, the Augustana swimming and diving program recognized eight seniors, seven on the women's side and one on the men's.Â
"Honoring our seniors today showed what is the most important part of our team and that is the relationship and standing together through everything," Lloyd added. "It was an honor to coach this special group. They made a huge impact on our program."
Both teams will have a few weeks off before the CCIW Championships begin. The diving championships are slated for February 12, while the swimming championships begin on February 17.
