WATERLOO, Iowa -- The Augustana Vikings women's bowling team completed their first tournament in nearly two months this past weekend, participating in the Peacock Classic at Cadillac XBC in an outing hosted by Upper Iowa University. Augie placed fifth out of eight teams present and ahead of three fellow CCIW schools.

The Vikings bounced back from a slow start on day one after going 2-3, but got redemption wins over Carroll and Quincy on Saturday after falling to both of them the day before. Augie dropped their first two matchups on day two, but closed out the weekend winners of their last six head-to-head contests. Their win streak to end the weekend allowed them to move up a spot in the standings.

Madelyn Lathrop was named to the Peacock Classic All-Tournament Team after placing fourth overall out of over 50 bowlers. The fourth place finish on an individual level is the highest placement for an Augie bowler in school history up to this point. Lathrop's weekend was highlighted by clean 218 and 215 games, respectively. She also saw time at the anchor position and came up big in the last frame against Quincy in traditional play to seal the win. Abigail Clark had the high score for the team in the tournament with a 224. She placed 15th overall.

Other notable efforts include Sophia Osborn, who was strong on connecting spares all weekend that led to results of games 15-20 pins over her season average, posting a high score of 181 at the tournament. Kennedy Sawyer contributed off of the bench with two solid highs of 189 and 186. Also off of the bench, Samantha Novak subbed into their game on Saturday against Quincy and bowled a 172 to help them avenge their Friday loss. In baker, Rose Klinger bowled leadoff most of the time, setting the tone for many of their games. She posted a high of 177 on the weekend.

As a team, the Vikings had one clean baker game that resulted in a score of 212, with their baker high for the tournament at 213.

"We shifted our mindset on day two following a slow start to the weekend and controlled the controllables the rest of the weekend," said head coach Marty Resner. "We came together as a team and let the results take care of themselves. The mindset shift correlated to more consistency, better performance, and better results. We have one more opportunity next week in Dubuque to fine tune before the important conference play in February."

The Vikings are back in action beginning Saturday, January 29 for a two-day tournament at the Clarke Invitational at Cherry Lanes in Dubuque, Iowa.
