ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augie women's basketball (8-10, 2-7) will look to build upon their recent success with another CCIW contest tomorrow night. The Vikings are set to host North Central on Wednesday, Jan. 26.
A win over the Cardinals would be the second-consecutive victory after recording the season's marquee win over Carroll in Waukesha.
North Central enters the game with a 7-10 overall record and an even .500 record of 4-4 in CCIW play. The Cardinals have won back-to-back games against Carthage and Elmhurst after coming up short against North Park in overtime.
Allison Pearson leads the Cardinals in scoring with an average of 11.8 points per game. Mitrese Smith, Elle Sutter, and IxChel Leeuwenburgh round out the Cardinals' balanced offensive attack with 9.5 ppg, 8.6 ppg, and 8.7 ppg, respectively. Leeuwenburgh is tops on NCC's roster in rebounds with 127 total and an average of nearly eight boards per game. Pearson also leads North Central with 64 total assists and a per game average of 3.8.
Wednesday's collision will conclude the regular season series between Augustana and North Central. The Vikings and Cardinals met up early this month in Naperville. North Central won the earlier matchup by a score of 75-59 behind a 17-point performance by Allison Pearson. Despite the loss,
Emily Brenneisen recorded her career-high with 14 points to the Vikings in scoring.
This season's win trimmed the Vikings' advantage in the all-time series to 43-38 and also snapped a two-game winning streak for Augustana against North Central.
