GRINNELL, Iowa -- The Augustana Vikings women's and men's dive team swam at the Grinnell Invitational January 21-22, with the women placing second out of seven teams present and the men finishing fourth. Augie took less than half of each of their teams to the meet as 14 women and 10 men made the trip
"I am so proud of our team," said head coach Dan Lloyd. "We have faced a lot of adversity heading into this weekend. They did an amazing job of stepping up to the challenge. Everyone did their job and showed great heart in every race."
WOMEN
The Viking women earned second place with a total of 905 points, coming behind only Grinnell in the two-day event. Augustana saw first place finishes in the 200 free style, 400 freestyle relay and the 100 IM. Emily Martin, who finished with a time of 1:03.88, just 0.4 off of the school record earned the win in the 100 IM. The team saw a podium sweep in the event as Bella Valenti earned second and Lauren Raike came in third.
In the 200 freestyle relay, Dominique Valentine, Isabelle Sansom, Brooke Walker, and Isabelle Seten took first with a time of 1:42.92. In the very last event of the meet, Sansom, Valentine, Walker, and Valenti won the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:44.46.

In the 200 IM A final, Raike took second (2:19.11) and Sansom took 4th (2:21.20)

In the 500 freestyle A final, Walker took second (5:20.69), Bella Casanovas took third (5:26.30), Addison Larson took sixth (5:39.03), Martin took eighth (5:43.96), and Jenna Hale took 9th (5:46.90). Bryanna Matkovich won the B final with a time of 5:35.24. Â

In the 100 freestyle A final, Valentine took second (56.52), followed by Sansom who took third (56.76), Walker finished in fiftth (57.40), Valenti took 8th (57.68).

In the 200 Butterfly, Casanovas finished second (2:18.88), followed by Matkovich finishing sixth (2:29.29).
Day 2

In the 400 IM, Matkovich dropped 21.86 seconds to take fifth (5:07.57).

In the 200 freestyle A final, Sansom took second (2:03.71), Raike took 3rd (2:05.09), Larson finished sixth (2:07.08).

In the 100 butterfly A final, Valentine finished second (1:02.41), while Casanovas took third (1:02.90).

In the 100 breast, Martin took third (1:12.4)Â and Raike took seventh (1:13.82).Â

In the 200 back Martin took eighth (2:23.18).

In the 50 freestyle A final, Valentine took fifth (25.96), Sansom took sixth (26.03), and Seten took eighth (26.40).

In the Mile, Walker took second (18:51.31), Casanovas fourth (19:19.89), Larson seventh (20:07.04), and Garcia 10th (20:14.26).Â
MEN
The Augie men ended the meet in fourth out of seven teams with a total of 510 points. The Viking men saw one event winner in Albert Buvary, who was victorious in the 100 freestyle. Jack Brandt also took home first in the 200 IM B final with a time of 2:05.90.

In the 400 IM A final, Addison placed sixth (4:24.43), Sienna took 10th (4:34.31).

In the 200 freestyle, Gavin McCorry took eighth (1:52.48).

In the 100 fly AÂ finalm Brandt took third (53.31). In the B final, Moreno finished 16th (58.88) and Holden Siena finished 18th (59:07).

In the 100 breast, Buvary finished eighth (1:02.20).

In the 200 back, McConkey took eighth (2:06.35).Â

In the 50 free, Buvary finished third (22.35) and Anderson took ninth (23.11).

"We may have been small in numbers but showed great strength in coming together as a team and performing at an extremely high level," Lloyd added. "It showed that we can truly do all things. It was a true honor to coach this group of amazing student-athletes this weekend."
The Vikings will get ready for a pair of dual meets this upcoming weekend, beginning on Friday, January 28 when they visit St. Ambrose. Start time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. from Davenport, Iowa.
