LINCOLN, Ill. – Last night, the Augustana women's wrestling team (1-2) defeated the Lincoln College Lynx in a dual match. The dual victory made history for the Vikings as it was the first-ever dual win in Augustana women's wrestling history.
The Vikings defeated the Lynx by a total score of 18-5. The scoring started early for Augie as
Ruby Gerhardt (130) and
Sydney Tajkowski (136) won their respective matches via forfeit.
Saniya Berry followed suit with a 13-4 decision over Lincoln's Audrey Driskell at 143 pounds.
Lincoln got on the board at 155 when the Lynx's McKenzie Cook defeated
Abbey Ellis by tech. fall. The dual meet wrapped up with another Augie victory at 191 pounds when
Sawyer Graham pinned Lincoln's Jalia Kennard.
The Vikings and Lynx also had two exhibition matches in which Berry picked up her second win of the night over Victoria Villagomez and McKenzie Cook pinned Augie's Graham. Augustana also had three extra bouts against the Fontbonne Griffins, all of which resulted in Viking losses.
Augustana will finish their regular season schedule on Saturday, Feb. 5 when the Viking women travel to Des Moines for the Grand View Open hosted by the Grand View University Vikings.
