Indoor track & field teams complete Battle in the Hive meet at St. Ambrose

The women took 3rd and the men took 4th

DAVENPORT, Iowa -- The Augustana Vikings men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed at the Battle in the Hive meet Saturday at St. Ambrose, with the women placing third out of eight teams and the men taking fourth. The event replaced the Vikings' originally scheduled outing at Monmouth College, which was canceled due to health and safety concerns.

Anna Boardman took first in the women's 3000m run to earn the Vikings ten team points. She finished the race with a time of 11:29.36, which was good for over 13 seconds faster than the next runner to cross the finish line. Jaidyn Sisler also grabbed third place in the same race for the Vikings. Irais Tenorio secured a couple of top three finishes on the day, placing third in both the one-mile run and 800m. She finished the 800m race with a time of 2:35.82, just .06 seconds behind second. In the one-mile, Tenorio crossed the finish line with a mark of 5:42.22. Emma Odle and Madison Weis both placed in the top six in the one-mile run as well to earn points for the team. Jade Johnson tallied 13th overall in the 60m dash after advancing to the finals with a preliminary run of 8.35.

In field events, Katrina Krebasch won the pole vault event after clearing 3.81m. Brooke Ziegenhorn took second in the pole vault with a mark of 3.20m. Krebasch also took second in the high jump with a leap of 1.55m. In the triple jump, Augie saw three members place within the top five, led by event winner Sammi Anselme with a 9.90m jump. Portia Carrera came in third, followed by Ziegenhorn in fifth. Freshman Heather Michalski placed third in the shot put to round out a successful showing for the Viking women.

As a team, Augustana earned 99 total points to finish in third out of eight teams.

On the men's side, Connor McBride was one of four Vikings to qualify for the 60m dash finals, concluding the event in sixth overall with a time of 7.14 to earn the Vikings three team points. McBride also secured a third-place finish in the 200m dash with a mark of 22.69. The Vikings closed out the running portion of the day with a few additional top six finishes, highlighted by Michael Gille who grabbed second in the 3000m with a time of 9:02.11. Freshman Joe Gibbons placed fourth in the 800m run, while Ian Rotherty came in sixth in the 400m dash.

In the field events, Augie placed three members inside the top four in the pole vault, led by Reid McNeil in second after clearing 4.25m. Dakota Straight and Derek Butts placed third and fourth, respectively. Carson Eipers was the meet's winner in the weight throw after posting 17.76m on his toss.

As a team, the Vikings earned 83 points to place them in fourth overall out of eight teams.

Augustana will be back in action on Friday, January 21 as they return to St. Ambrose for the Bumble Rumble Meet. Start time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
