ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana women's basketball (7-6, 1-3) travels to Illinois Wesleyan this weekend for a tough test against the Titans. The Vikings will look to build upon their first conference win of the season earlier in the week and spoil the Titans' hot start in CCIW play.
Illinois Wesleyan enters the weekend with an 8-6 overall record and a remarkable 5-0 record in CCIW play. The Titans are one of two undefeated teams in league action, just behind the conference leading Millikin squad.
Like Augie, IWU's last win came over the Elmhurst Bluejays in blowout fashion. The Titans trounced Elmhurst, 85-59. Monday's win was the second-consecutive victory for IWU.
Two IWU scorers average double figures including Lauren Huber with 14.3 ppg and Brooke Lansford with 13.1 ppg. Huber scores her points very efficiently with a 50.6% field goal rate. Huber also leads the Titans on the glass with 101 total rebounds and 7.2 rpg. Mallory Powers and Kaia Bowen are also solid rebounders for IWU as both average 5+ collections per contest. Saturday's game is the third game in six days for Augustana.
In the all-time series between Augie and Illinois Wesleyan, the Titans hold a 48-34 advantage. Augustana had IWU's number in the early installments as the Vikings won 23 games in a row from 1977-1993. Since both contests in the 2020-21 season were canceled, Illinois Wesleyan won the last game between the two squads 76-75 in overtime in the second round of the 2019-20 CCIW Tournament.
