Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 POMONA, Calif. – Augustana women's volleyball played their final two games at the Pacific Coast Classic in California yesterday. On Saturday, Sept. 4, the Vikings battled George Fox University and the hosts, Pomona-Pitzer.

The first game of the day went the way of the Vikings. Augustana jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after beating the Bruins 25-23 in the first set, and 25-20 in the second. The Vikings looked to be in great position for a sweep before GFU came alive. The Bruins rallied and trounced Augie in the third set, 25-14, before outplaying them again in the fourth, 25-17. The back-and-forth affair culminated in a fifth set that was won 15-9 by Augustana.

The Vikings were led offensively Emily Schipper and Jaden Julius with 12 and 10 kills, respectively. The Augie attack could not have been as successful without the stellar play of veteran setter Olivia Doak. She recorded 26 assists in the match.

The Vikings trailed GFU in total blocks 15-11 but managed to stifle the Bruins just enough down the stretch. Both Lexis Miller and Schipper had two solo blocks.

The westward trip's final match featured the Vikings and one of the event's hosts, Pomona-Pitzer. The Sagehens took the first set to settle into the match, but once they gathered momentum, never looked back. After dropping the first stanza 25-20, Augustana was outscored 50-27 in the final two sets en route to Pomona-Pitzer's sweep.

Schipper and Ja'Nya Davis each had four kills, while Doak recorded another 13 assists. Defensively, Grace Vranicar led Augie receiving with a dozen digs, and Davis paced the Vikings with a pair of blocks. Vranicar was named to the Pacific Coast Classic All-Tournament Team.

The Saturday split moved the Vikings' record to 3-3 overall with seven more contests scheduled before CCIW play begins. Augustana women's volleyball will be back on the court on Friday, Sept. 10 at 6:00 P.M. when they travel to Grinnell, Iowa for a tri-match with Grinnell and Loras.
