ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Augustana women's golf team continued their excellent play this weekend in another home event. The Vikings hosted the Highland Classic, a 13-team event at Highland Springs Golf Course, in the Quad Cities.

Augustana entered three teams into the event and saw success across the board. The Vikings' A squad won the team race by a wide margin, outshooting the runners-up from Wisconsin-Platteville by 47 strokes. The Vikings top team finished the event with a total score of 604, or +28. The Vikings' scores of 297 in one-day and 604 in two days are both program records.

The Augie B team also produced some quality golf and posted a top-five finish. That group shot 666, or +90, for the weekend and ended up in fifth place.

Individually, the Viking ladies showed improvement from Round 1 to Round 2. After the first, Kelsey O'Connor was sitting in a tie for first place at +2 along with Wisconsin-Platteville's Markie Ash. Five other Vikings were positioned in the top seven with ties after day one including Brooke Dean, Avery Frick, Elena Kuczkowski, Grace Loverde, and Rylie Schurter.

In the second round, Augustana took another step up in their play. Frick posted the low-round of the tournament with a five-under 67. Frick's Sunday round propelled her to the individual victory. Her score of 67, along with five-under par, is an Augustana school record.

Four other Augie girls finished in the top seven. Elena Kuczkowski ended in sole possession of third place after she dropped a shot from her first-round score. Grace Loverde and Kelsey O'Connor tied with Viterbo University's Madison Zloto in fourth place at 11-over for the tournament. Lastly, Rylie Schurter improved her score by two strokes to take seventh place alone.

The Vikings will be back in action this Tuesday, September 7 when they compete at the Elmhurst Invite in Oak Brook, Ill.
