LA VERNE, Calif. – The Viking volleyball season continues this weekend with a lengthy road trip. Coach Kelly Bethke's squad travels to the Golden State of California for a four-game set with a collection of non-conference opponents.
 
The 2021 Pacific Coast Classic, hosted by La Verne University, was originally scheduled in the spring, but moved to September because of COVID-19 complications.
 
Coming off of a triangular split with Central and Cornell, the Vikings (1-1) will open play tonight, Friday, Sept. 3, against the Poets of Whittier College. Whittier started their season with a 3-0 loss at UC Santa Cruz earlier in the week. Augustana and Whittier have met once before. The Vikings swept the 2017 match-up in Colorado Springs.
 
Next, Augustana will face Eastern Nazarene College in Friday's nightcap. The Lions are 1-0 so far after a sweep of Salem State.
 
Play will continue on Saturday, when Augie battles two more teams to close the tournament. First, the Vikings will take on George Fox University, who is 1-0 after defeating Warner Pacific. Finally, Augustana ends the trip with a tilt against the Sagehens of Pomona-Pitzer.
