ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Augustana women's volleyball team will try and bounce back in a big way tomorrow night. The Vikings will host No. 24 ranked Carthage on Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 7:00 P.M.
Augie is currently on a four-game losing streak after going winless at the Viking Classic. As the tournament's host institution, Augustana lost to UW-Platteville, Nebraska Wesleyan, and Knox in five sets, and Coe in three.
The Vikings will welcome Carthage to the Carver Center for the CCIW opener. The Firebirds are currently ranked in the top 25 nationally, and maintain a 9-5 overall record.
Haley Horner leads the team in kills with 207. Liv Carel and Molly Skoda have also eclipsed triple-digit kills with 121 and 115, respectively. Horner is second on the squad in digs with 122, just behind Aubree Bucheger with 183. Jenna Millen has recorded 388 assists along with a team-high 27 service aces. On the front line of the Firebirds' defense, Leena Ajibola leads the team with 42 total blocks.
Carthage spent the last weekend at the Loras Tournament in Dubuque, Iowa. In their last four matches, the Firebirds have gone 3-1, with the lone loss coming most recently. The University of Dubuque defeated Carthage in five sets to end the tournament. Prior to that, Carthage beat St. Olaf, Grinnell, and St. Scholastica by a combined 9-1 margin.
In the 10-game all-time series, Augustana has yet to defeat Carthage. Dating back to 2013, the Firebirds have beaten Augie 10 times. Most recently, Carthage swept Augustana in the COVID-19 adjusted spring season of 2021.
