Women's golf has middling weekend at IWU Fall Classic

Vikings finish 11th in 19-team field; Frick posts Augie's lowest score

NORMAL, Ill. – Augie women's golf had a middling weekend at the IWU Fall Classic in Normal. Illinois Wesleyan hosted the two-day tournament at Ironwood Golf Course from Friday, Sept. 17 to Saturday, Sept. 18.
 
The Vikings finished the event in 11th-place out of a field of 19 teams. As a squad, Augustana at +65 for the tournament, three strokes behind Centre College at +62. The hosts from IWU finished in fourth at +43, just narrowly behind Grinnell College in third at +41. The top two teams were Denison University at +31, and the winners, Washington University-St. Louis at +26.
 
Wash U also boasted the individual champion as Sydney Kuo won the event at -3. Kuo was the only player to finish under par for the tournament.
 
Avery Frick was the lowest player on the board for Augustana as she tied for 15th-place at +9.
 
Two other Vikings placed in the top 50 of the individual standings. Kelsey O'Connor shot +16, which was good enough for a T41 finish. Also, Paige Breslin's +17 placed her T45 for the tournament.
 
Augustana women's golf will be back in action next weekend at the Dechert Classic hosted by Millikin University at Red Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur, Ill.
