GALENA, Ill. – The Augie men's golf team competed at the Midwest Region Classic in Galena, Ill. this weekend. The two-day event featured a deep field of 24 teams from across the midwestern region. As a squad, the Vikings finished towards the middle of the pack, but cracked the top ten, with a ninth-place finish.
Edgewood College captured the team title of the tournament in dominant fashion. The Eagles finished with a collective score of +24. That mark was 19 strokes lower than the runner-up team from the University of Dubuque. Augustana's ninth-place finish featured a team score of +68.
Edgewood also enjoyed individual success, as three of the top four place winners represented the Eagles including the champion, Jake Schroeckenthaler. Schroeckenthaler had round of -3 and even par to take the crown. He was the only player in the field to break par for the weekend.
Tyler Langel led the way for Augustana and finished in a tie for 12
th. Langel posted scores of 78 and 76 to reach his final tally of +10.
Adam Soczka was the only other Viking in the top 25 as he played his way to +13 for the tournament.
Augustana men's golf will be back in Galena for their next event. The Vikings will compete in the Clarke Invitational from Friday, Sept. 17 to Saturday, Sept. 18.
