Women's tennis splits triangular, improves to 2-0 in CCIW

Augustana defeated IWU in the early match to notch their second conference win

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Augustana Vikings women's tennis team split a pair of matches on Saturday, defeating the Illinois Wesleyan Titans by a score of 8-1 before falling to the Grinnell Pioneers by the same score at the Lower Campus Courts on the campus of Augustana College. 

Match One (W 8-1 vs. Illinois Wesleyan)

In the first match of the day, the Vikings started things off with three straight doubles wins, led by a clean performance from the No. 1 spot as Lily Schoeck and Cailtyn Hanulikova made it a flawless 8-0 victory in their favor. Lauren Oda and Grace Rider kept the momentum going, earning a win at No. 2 with a score of 8-4, followed by a triumph at No. 3 from Mia Reese and Michaela Magee with a final of 8-5. Augie led IWU 3-0 in the match heading into singles play.

The Vikings continued to see success at the top of their lineup in singles, with Magee earning a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 2 position. Schoeck nearly matched her teammate, prevailing 6-1, 6-0 at the top spot, while Hanulikova grabbed a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3. Augustana also saw wins at No. 4 and No. 5 from Oda and Rider to round out the 8-1 victory for the home team.

Augustana improves to 2-0 in the CCIW with the victory.

Match Two (L 8-1 vs. Grinnell)

Augustana fell in the second match of the day to the Pioneers of Grinnell as the road team began the contest with three wins in doubles for the early 3-0 advantage. The Vikings managed to grab a win in No. 3 singles with a three-set thriller from Hanulikova, defeating her counterpart 6-4, 2-6, 10-8. The Pioneers took the rest of the matches to close things out with an 8-1 team win.

With the results, Augustana now sits at 2-1 overall and 2-0 in league play. The team will remain in conference for their next match on Saturday, September 18th when they take on Carthage on the road. Start time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. from Kenosha, Wis.
