Box Score ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Augustana Vikings women's tennis team was victorious in their home and CCIW opener on Friday afternoon, defeating the visiting North Park Vikings by a score of 7-2 from the Lower Campus Courts on the campus of Augustana College.
It was a clean sweep in doubles to begin the match for Augie, as quick work in the No. 3 spot from
Mia Reese and
Michaela Magee got the home team on the board first with an 8-0 win over their opponent. The No. 1 tandem of
Lily Schoeck and
Caitlyn Hanulikova finished next with an 8-2 win in the top spot, followed by a win at No. 2 from
Lauren Oda and
Grace Rider with a score of 8-3. Augustana led 3-0 over North Park heading into singles play.
Schoeck got things started with a quick win in No. 1 singles, taking the first set 6-1 before an NPU injury gave her the victory. Magee posted a flawless performance from the No. 2 slot, sweeping her counterpart 6-0, 6-0 to clinch the match with the fifth team point of the afternoon. Hanulikova and Oda also picked up wins in the No. 3 and 4 spots, giving Augustana the 7-2 victory to begin the 2021 CCIW slate.
With the win, Augie improves to 1-0 on the year and 1-0 in conference play. The team is back in action on Saturday, September 11th when they host league foe Illinois Wesleyan, followed by Grinnell for a non-conference battle. Match times are scheduled for 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
