Women's volleyball to open season with home triangular match

Vikings will host a pair of non-conference foes as they serve up the 2021 season

8/31/2021 12:11:00 PM

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana women's volleyball is set to begin their 2021 campaign tomorrow with a big day on the court. The Vikings are hosting a triangular match with the Dutch of Central College (IA) and the Cornell College Rams.

In a shortened 2020-21 season, Augustana tallied a 4-8 overall record, and finished 2-5 in CCIW games. The Vikings battled Cornell in an unscored scrimmage to end the schedule.

Central finished last year's schedule with a 4-4 record, with all eight games contributing to their American Rivers Conference mark. The Dutch will look to continue their momentum as they won three of their final four games in the spring.

Augustana and Central have squared off a total of nine times since 2013. The Vikings hold the all-time series advantage with six wins. Augie has also won three consecutive matches against the Dutch, with the most recent coming in 2018.

The Rams played just five matches due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but recorded a 4-1 win-loss mark. Their lone defeat came at Loras College in the season finale.

Augustana also maintains a series advantage over Cornell. The Vikings have beaten the Rams three times in their four previous meetings. The most recent match-up was taken by Augie in five sets during the 2019 season.
