Vikings finish sixth in the CCIW; go 36-59 head-to-head; take third at Central Dutch Shootout; Jack Neenan ties for 12th at CCIW Championships
After having the 2020 spring and fall seasons nixed by fears over COVID, Coach
Paul Del Vecchio's Augustana golf team got back into action this spring. The Vikings crammed eight events and 12 rounds into just more than a month of play, placing sixth at the CCIW Championships, recording a top finish of third at the Central Dutch Shootout and posting a 36-59 head-to-head record.
Senior
Jack Neenan (Benet Academy, Naperville, Ill.) led the way individually. He recorded a team-best average of 78.3 over eight rounds in five events. His low round was a two-over 74 at the Augie Invitational on April 9 and his highest finish came at the CCIW Championships in Normal, Illinois on April 30-May 1, where he tied for 12th with a 79-75-79—233 card. Neenan's career average of 79.40 ranks 21st in program history.
Del Vecchio had four golfers who played all 12 rounds this year—sophomore
Tyler Langel (West Delaware HS, Manchester, Iowa), senior
Dylan Flock (Maroa Forsyth HS, Forsyth, Ill.), junior
Hunter Love (Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.) and sophomore
Jonah Snelling (Benet Academy, Glen Ellyn, Ill.).
Langel sported an average of 80.7 and recorded Augustana's highest finish of the season with a sixth-place 77 at the Central Dutch Shootout. That was his low round of the year and he matched it at the CCIW Championships, where he shot 81-77-81—239 to place 20th.
Flock averaged 81.3 for the season. His low round of 75 came on day one of Millikin's Take Back the Night Challenge. His highest finish was a tie for 18th at the Naperville Intercollegiate on March 29. He tied for 35th in the CCIW, shooting 89-82-81—252.
Love carried an average of 82.0. He shared the Vikings' lowest round of the season with a 74 at the Augie Invitational. His highest finish was a tie for 14th at the Cartage Spring Invitational on April 13 and his 80-78-80—238 earned him a tie for 18th at the CCIW Championships.
Snelling finished the year with an average of 83.8. Like Neenan and Love, he carded an Augustana season-low 74 at the Augustana Invitational. He also logged the Vikings' second-highest finish of the season when he tied for 10th at the Central Dutch Shootout. He shot 91-85-89—265 to tie for 41st at the CCIW Championships.
