DECORAH, Iowa – Augustana dropped its 2020-21 regular season finale Sunday, falling 7-2 at Luther. The Vikings will take a 9-6 record into their 1:30 p.m. CCIW Tournament quarterfinal versus Elmhurst on Tuesday, May 4 at the Lower Campus Courts. The host Norse improved to 11-4 on the season.
Augustana's wins came at third doubles and first singles.
In doubles play, juniors
Leonardo Panosso (La sale Caxias, Caxias Do Sul, Brazil) and
Justin Cassens (Emerald Ridge HS, Puyallup, Wash.) earned a hard-fought 8-7 (7-5) victory over Karki Sakchham and Ryan Ortega at number three.
Caio de Rezende
(Colegio Itoca, Sao Paulo, Brazil) was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Nyathi Motlojoa at number one singles.
Motlojoa and Cole Schneider were 8-2 winners over senior
Peter Alex (Hinsdale South HS, Darien, Ill.) and junior
Kyle Boudreau (Antioch HS, Antioch, Ill.) at first doubles and de Rezende and freshman
Eliot St. Paul (Ecole Diagonal, Paris, France) fell 8-5 to Max Loen and Brook Norwood at number two.
Schneider downed Alex 6-3 7-6 (7-1) at second singles and Panosso dropped a 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-4) decision to Loen at number three. At number four, Norwood defeated St. Paul 6-4, 6-1. Sakchham was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Cassens at number five and Dylan Wiemers beat Boudreau three and one at number six.
