KENOSHA, Wis. – Top-seeded North Central defeated Augustana 5-0 Saturday at the Smeds Tennis Center for the championship of the CCIW Tournament. The Vikings finish the year 10-6, while the Cardinals improved to 14-5.
Mikayla Edquiban and Sydney Sawyer got things started with an 8-0 win over seniors
Morgan Bullen (Colorado Academy, Lakewood, Colo.) and
Kalli Majewski (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) at second doubles.
At number one, Hannah Hougland and Alaina Kanthaphixay bested senior
Annie Timm (Prairie Ridge HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.) and sophomore
Lily Schoeck (Alleman Catholic HS, Rock Island, Ill.) 8-4 and Kaeli Smashey and Nina Patience defeated sophomore
Lauren Oda (Elk Grove HS, Elk Grove Village, Ill.) and freshman
Caitlyn Hanulikova (Ames HS, Ames, Iowa) by the same score at number three.
Kanthaphixay made it 4-0 with a 6-4, 6-1 win over
Michaela Magee (Olathe East HS, Overland Park, Kan.) at third singles and Edquiban clinched the team victory by downing Hanulikova 6-1, 6-2 at number four.
The Cardinals were first-set winners in each of the four unfinished singles matches.
