KENOSHA, Wis. – Augustana avenged a regular season loss to Wheaton Friday, defeating the Thunder 5-3 in the semifinal round of the CCIW Tournament at the Smeds Tennis Center. Coach Jon Miedema's squad, now 10-5 on the season, advances to the finals against top seed North Central on Saturday, May 1.

Seniors Morgan Bullen (Colorado Academy, Lakewood, Colo.) and Kalli Majewski (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) gave the Vikings an early lead with an 8-4 second doubles win over Claire Dibble and Bethany Hoogerheide.

Wheaton's Emme Lindquist and Abygale Ahn scored an 8-1 win over senior Annie Timm (Prairie Ridge HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.) and sophomore Lily Schoeck (Alleman Catholic HS, Rock Island, Ill.) at number one, but Augustana got a key win at number three. Freshman Caitlyn Hanulikova (Ames HS, Ames, Iowa) and sophomore Lauren Oda (Elk Grove HS, Elk Grove Village, Ill.) downed Lindsey Anderson and Sarah Backer 8-7 to send the Vikings to singles play with a 2-1 lead.

Timm made it 3-1 with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Lindquist at number one, but Hoogerheide bested Hanulikova 7-6, 6-3 at number four to keep the Thunder within striking distance.

Ahn's 6-1, 6-2 win over Schoeck at number two tied the dual at 3-3, but wins by Oda at number five and sophomore Michaela Magee (Olathe East HS, Overland Park, Kan.) at number three clinched it for Miedema's crew. Oda downed Backer 6-1, 7-5 and Magee rallied to take down Dibble 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

When play was halted, Majewski led 4-1 in the third set of her sixth singles match with Caroline Park.
