ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Sophomore Michaela Magee (Olathe East HS, Overland Park, Kan.) had the clincher at third singles Tuesday afternoon, as Augustana defeated Carthage 5-1 in CCIW Tournament quarterfinal action at the Lower Campus Courts. Coach Jon Miedema's squad moves on to semifinal play on Friday, April 30 with a 9-5 record. The Vikings will take on the winner of Tuesday's Elmhurst-Wheaton quarterfinal in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Augustana jumped on top 2-0 in doubles play. Freshman Caitlyn Hanulikova (Ames HS, Ames, Iowa) and sophomore Lauren Oda (Elk Grove HS, Elk Grove Village, Ill.) whitewashed Kenna Beth and Stephanie Yerges 8-0 at number three and seniors Morgan Bullen (Colorado Academy, Lakewood, Colo.) and Kalli Majewski (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) scored an 8-3 win over Sierra Sonnemaker and Faelan O'Shaughnessy at number two.

The Firebirds recorded their only win at first doubles, where Rachel Anderson and Sam Ramsey edged senior Annie Timm (Prairie Ridge HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.) and sophomore Lily Schoeck (Alleman Catholic HS, Rock Island, Ill.) 8-7, avenging a regular season loss to the Viking duo.

Neither Oda or Majewski dropped a game in scoring respective wins over Yerges and Cailida Werner at fifth and sixth singles to put the hosts up 4-1. Magee clinched the Augustana victory by defeating Sonnemaker 6-1, 6-0 at number three.

Timm, Schoeck and Hanulikova all won their opening sets at numbers one, two and four, respectively, before Magee's win halted play.
