Sophomore Lily Schoeck clinched the Vikings 5-4 win over Luther on Sunday, April 25 with a
6-0; 1-6; 10-6 win over Shelby Cook at number two singles.
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana tuned up for the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Tournament with a solid victory over Luther on Sunday, April 25 at the Lower Campus Courts. The Vikings defeated Luther, the American Rivers Conference champion, by a score of 5-4 to end the regular season with an 8-5 overall record. Luther, coached by former Augustana head men and women's tennis coach Adam Strand, is now 10-4.
This win came down to the final match as sophomore
Lily Schoeck (Alleman Catholic HS, Rock Island, Ill.) was the last player on the court for the Vikings at number two singles. She had to go to three sets to defeat Shelby Cook (6-0; 1-6; 10-6) to secure the win for head coach
Jon Miedema's bunch.
The Vikings were actually trailing 4-3 with just two singles matches left on the court and senior
Kalli Majewski (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) knotted the match at 4-4 with a 6-2; 7-6 win over Luther's Kylie Dunning. The victory capped off quite a weekend for the versatile Majewski. On Friday night, April 23, Majewski won the triple jump as a member of the Augustana women's track & field team at the Big Blue Open in Decatur, Illinois.
Augustana also got singles wins from sophomore
Lauren Oda (Elk Grove HS, Elk Grove Village, Ill.) at number four and freshman
Caitlyn Hanulikova (Ames HS, Ames, Iowa) at number three. Oda beat Natalia Smith 6-3; 6-2 at number four and Hanulikova took the measure of Sofia Sackett 7-6; 7-5 at number three.

Morgan Bullen (Colorado Academy, Lakewood, Colo.) dropped a tight three-setter to Kiley Nolan (4-6; 6-3; 5-10) at number six. At number one singles, senior
Annie Timm (Prairie Ridge HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.) retired after her match with Devon Bourget was tied 2-2.
Luther won two of three in doubles to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles. Bourget and Cook beat Schoeck and Timm 8-7 at number one and Sackett and Smith took down Bullen and Majewski 8-3 at number two. Oda and Hanulikova beat Anna Spencer and Lexi Hasting 8-1 at number three for the lone Augustan point in doubles.
Miedema will now send his team into battle in the CCIW Tournament with a quarterfinal match against Carthage on Tuesday, April 27 at 1:00 p.m. on the Lower Campus Courts.
