INDIANOLA, Iowa – Senior
Mason Wright (Polo HS, Woosung, Ill.) and junior
Karsten Zielinski (Schaumburg HS, Schaumburg, Ill.) led the way Friday, as Augustana competed in a loaded field at Simpson's Skip Janvrin Open. No team scores were compiled at the meet, which featured 44 teams, including several NCAA Division I and II outfits.
Wright recorded a pair of top-eight finishes. His 46' 3¼" in the triple jump was good for second place and he was seventh in the long jump, going 20' 9¾".
Zieleinski shaved 21 one-hundredths of a second off his personal and Viking season best in the 3000-meter steeplechase to finish fourth in 9:39.51.
Sophomore
Seth Rohr (Rock Canyon HS, Pella, Iowa) cleared 12' 9½" to place fourth in the pole vault, while senior
Peyton Couch (Ottawa HS, Marseilles, Ill.) was seventh with a height of 12' 3½".
In the hammer, sophomore
Carson Eipers (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.) threw 159' 9" to place fifth. Coach
Jake Shaver's 4x400 relay also finished fifth, running a 3:51.91. That unit was made up of freshmen Dean Check
(Nevada HS, Nevada, Iowa) and
Colin Stapleton (Lockport HS, Lockport, Ill.), sophomore
Adam Schumacher (Jacksonville HS, South Jacksonville, Ill.) and senior
Jacob Vowell (Maine South HS, Park Ridge, Ill.).
