PELLA, Iowa – Sophomores
Tyler Langel (West Delaware HS, Manchester, Iowa) and
Jonah Snelling (Benet Academy, Glen Ellyn, Ill.) both recorded top 10 finishes Thursday to lead Augustana to a tie for third place at the Central Dutch Shootout at Bos Landen Golf Club. The event was the Vikings' final tune-up before the CCIW Championships on April 30-May 1 at Weibring Golf Club in Normal, Illinois.
Langel tied for sixth place in the individual standings, carding a season-low round of 77. Snelling shot a six-over 78 to tie for 10th in a field of 43 golfers.
Coach
Paul Del Vecchio's squad shot a collective 317 to tie St. Ambrose for third in an eight-team field behind champion Nebraska Wesleyan (303) and the host Dutch (308).
Augustana junior
Hunter Love (Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.) carded an 80 to tie for 16th, with seniors
Dylan Flock (Maroa-Forsyth HS, Forsyth, Ill.) and
Jack Neenan (Benet Academy, Naperville, Ill.) rounding out the Viking quintet. Flock shot an 82 and Neenan an 83 to tie for 22nd and 24th, respectively.
Central's Harold Dobernecker shot an even-par 72 to claim medalist honors, with Grant Johnson of Nebraska Wesleyan, St. Ambrose's Owen Hultman and Shane Hess of Buena Vista in a tie for second, two strokes back. NWU's Alex Kubik (75) rounded out the top five.
