Vikings log CCIW wins over Wisconsin schools

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Augustana captured all 12 singles matches and five of six doubles tilts Sunday afternoon, defeating Carthage 9-0 and Carroll 8-1 at the Lower Campus Courts. The Vikings improved to 7-5 on the season and 6-2 in the CCIW. Coach Jon Medema's squad is schedule to play at the University of Chicago on Tuesday, April 20.
 
AUGUSTANA 9, CARTHAGE 0
 
Augustana swept the Firebirds (4-5, 3-4) in its first dual of the day.
 
Sophomore Lauren Oda (Elk Grove HS, Elk Grove Village, Ill.) and freshman Caitlyn Hanulikova (Ames HS, Ames, Iowa) were 8-1 winners over Stephanie Yerges and Kenna Beth at third doubles. At number one, senior Annie Timm (Prairie Ridge HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.) and sophomore Lily Schoeck (Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.) took care of Sam Ramsey and Rachel Anderson by a score of 8-3 and Miedema's number two team of seniors Morgan Bullen (Colorado Academy, Lakewood, Colo.) and Kalli Majewski (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) defeated Faelan O'Shaughnessy and Sierra Sonnemaker 8-7.
 
In singles play, Timm won her first set at number one over Ramsey 6-2 before the Carthage player retired. Sophomore Michaela Magee (Olathe East HS, Overland Park, Kan.) downed Sonnemaker 6-1, 6-0 at number three and Hanulikova bested O'Shaughnessy one and one at number four.
 
Oda and Bullen were respective winners at fifth and sixth singles. Oda won 6-2, 6-0 over Yerges and Bullen took care of Cailida Werner by scores of 6-0, 6-2. Schoeck was a 6-0, 6-4 winner over Anderson at number two.
 
AUGUSTANA 8, CARROLL 1
 
The Vikings were nearly as dominant in defeating Carroll (6-3, 4-3) in their second dual of the day.
 
Timm and Schoeck whitewashed Carolyn Merkatoris and Maya Gaedtke 8-0 at first doubles and Majewski and Bullen were 8-3 winners over Lora Leach and Clare Veranth at number two. Oda and Hanulikova completed the doubles sweep with an 8-7 win over Rachel Papp and Francesca Grimes at number three.
 
Miedema shuffled his singles lineup against the Pioneers. Oda moved up to number three and dispatched Merkatoris 6-0, 6-2 and Majewski slid into the number four slot and defeated Papp 6-1, 6-1.
 
Bumped up to number one, Schoeck handled Gaedtke 6-0, 6-3 and Magee moved up to number two and bested Leach 6-1, 6-3.
 
Senior Amanda Redman (Wheaton North HS, Wheaton, Ill.) scored a 6-3, 7-6 sixth singles win over Grimes, while freshman Mia Reece (Wheaton North HS, Wheaton, Ill.) dropped a 6-3, 7-5 decision to Veranth at number five.
