MOLINE, Ill. – Inclement weather moved Sunday's CCIW dual between Augustana and Elmhurst indoors, but it didn't stop the Vikings from continuing their winning ways. Coach
Jon Miedema's men defeated the Bluejays 8-1 at the Quad City Tennis Club to move to 6-3 on the season and 4-0 in the conference. It was the program's 16th consecutive dual-meet victory in league play. Elmhurst moved to 1-4 on the year and 1-2 in the CCIW.
Augustana captured a pair of doubles matches. Seniors
Alvaro Leal (Maristas Valencia, Valencia, Spain) and Caio de Rezende
(Colegio Itoca, Sao Paulo, Brazil) bested Shawn Sabaricos and Brandon Fulmer 8-2 at number two and juniors
Justin Cassens (Emerald Ridge HS, Puyallup, Wash.) and
Leonardo Panosso (La Sale Caxias, Caxias do Sul, Brazil) were 8-5 winners over Florin Stan and Tavious Imperial at number three.
The visitors' lone win came at first doubles, where Justin Penados and Ben Cavka defeated senior
Peter Alex (Hinsdale South HS, Darien, Ill.) and junior
Kyle Boudreau (Antioch HS, Antioch, Ill.) by a score of 8-5.
The Vikings swept in singles action.
Leal downed Sabaricos 6-1, 6-0 at number three. Cassens was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Imperial at number six and de Rezende bested Penados 6-4, 6-1 at first singles.
At number two, Alex scored a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Stan. Panosso downed Fulmer three and three at fourth singles and freshman
Eliot St. Paul (Ecole Diagonal, Paris, France) beat Cavka 7-6, 6-0 at number five.
