Viking women open with 7-2 win over Coe

MOLINE, Ill. – Coach Jon Miedema's Augustana women finally got the 2020-21 season underway on Saturday, downing Coe by a score of 7-2 at the Quad City Tennis Club. The Vikings (1-0) are scheduled to host UW-Whitewater next on Saturday, March 13. Playing their first dual of the spring, the Kohawks dropped to 7-8 on the season.
 
Miedema's number one team of senior Annie Timm (Prairie Ridge HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.) and sophomore Lily Schoeck (Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.) started off an Augustana doubles sweep with an 8-0 win over Eliza Sunderman and Janie Lapray.
 
Freshman Caitlyn Hanulikova (Ames HS, Ames, Iowa) and senior Morgan Bullen (Colorado Academy, Lakewood, Colo.) were 8-3 winners over Emma Lassen and Mikayla Heath at number two and sophomores Michaela Magee (Olathe East HS, Overland Park, Kan.) and Lauren Oda (Elk Grove HS, Elk Grove Village, Ill.) defeated Michaela Pinto and Abby Mau by the same score at third doubles.
 
Mia Reese made it 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-2 sixth singles win over Daniela Almarales. Schoeck downed Sunderman 6-1, 6-0 at number two and Magee was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Lapray at number three. Timm won three and two over Lassen at number one.
 
The Vikings' setbacks came at fourth and fifth singles. Amanda Redman (Wheaton North HS, Wheaton, Ill.) fell 6-1, 6-1 to Pinto at number four and Nichole Pacheco (Colegio Arua, Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil) dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision to Heath at number five.
