NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Sophomore
Tyler Langel (West Delaware HS, Manchester, Iowa) shot an 81 Monday to finish in a tie for 11th individually and lead Augustana to a sixth-place team finish at North Central's Naperville Intercollegiate. Coach
Paul Del Vecchio's Vikings shot a collective 335 at Naperville Country Club to finish 19 strokes back of Aurora's "B" team, which captured the title.
Senior
Dylan Flock (Maroa-Forsyth HS, Forsythe, Ill.) and junior
Hunter Love (Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.) each shot 84 for De Vecchio, tying for 18th place in a field of 50 golfers.
Rounding out the Augustana contingent were sophomores
Jonah Snelling (Benet Academy, Glen Ellyn, Ill.) and
Brendan Fritz (Sycamore HS, Sycamore, Ill.). Snelling carded an 86 to tie for 28th and Fritz shot a 95 to tie for 42nd.
Aurora's "B" team (316) edged its "A" unit (318) by two strokes for the team championship. Wheaton shot 319 to finish third, followed by North Park (327), the host Cardinals (332) and the Vikings. Rounding out the field were North Park's "B" squad (351) and Benedictine (359) and Judson (359), who tied for eighth.
North Park's Jack Heberkorn and Wheaton's David Morton each carded a 76 to share medalist honors.
Next up for Augustana is the Illinois Wesleyan Invite on Friday and Saturday, April 2-3 at Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Illinois.
