Lily Schoeck won in doubles and singles as the Vikings beat Millikin 5-4 on Sunday, March 28.
DECATUR, Ill. – Victories in the final three singles matches of the afternoon were enough for Augustana to secure a 5-4 win over Millikin on Sunday, March 28 in women's tennis action. The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin match was played at Fairview Park in Decatur, Illinois.
The Vikings trailed 2-1 after the doubles competition.
Senior
Annie Timm (Prairie Ridge HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.) and sophomore Lilly Schoeck
(Alleman Catholic HS, Rock Island, Ill.) picked up an 8-3 win over Brianna Barconi and Cristina Borunda at number one doubles.
The number two team of freshman
Caitlyn Hanulikova (Ames HS, Ames, Iowa) and senior
Morgan Bullen (Colorado Academy, Lakewood, Colo.) dropped a hard-fought 8-7 (7-2) decision to Shelby Jones and Destiny Galvan. At number three, senior
Kalli Majewski (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) and sophomore
Michaela Magee (Olathe East HS, Overland Park, Kansas) fell 8-3 to Nikol Obradovic and Katie Cooper.
The 2-1 deficit soon became 2-2 when Magee polished off Jones 6-1; 6-0 at number three singles but the Big Blue forged ahead 3-2 when Obradovic beat Timm 6-0; 6-0 at number one. Millikin jumped the advantage to 4-2 after Danielle Beard beat Bullen 6-3; 6-1 at number six.
That's when the comeback began and it started with a 6-3; 6-4 win by Majewski over Taylor Milholland at number five. Schoeck's 7-5; 6-2 win over Barconi at number two tied the match 4-4 and Hanulikova sealed the victory with a 6-3; 7-5 win over Borunda at number four.
Augustana is now 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the CCIW while Millikin is 6-3 and 2-1. The Vikings are in action again on Wednesday, March 31 in Chicago, Illinois against league foe North Park.
