RACINE, Wis. – Augustana's outstanding 2020-21 bowling season came to an end Saturday with a 878-805 setback at the hands of Carthage in CCIW Championship action at Castle Lanes. Marianna Hristakos' 225 led the Firebirds past Coach
Seth Tegtmeier's squad, which finished the year with a 23-5 head-to-head record.
Senior
Alex Buffington (Harlem HS, Loves Park, Ill.) led the way for the Vikings, with a 191, while freshman
Mina Garner (Lake Park HS, Roselle, Ill.) rolled a 167. Cassie Hyland supported Hristakos' effort with a 194, as Carthage avenged a loss to Augustana during the first weekend of championship play.
The Firebirds advanced to the finals, where they fell to top seed Marian 1701-1601 in a combination of traditional and Baker play. Either Carthage or the Vikings would have needed two wins over the Sabres—who were unbeaten in the tournament—to capture the first-ever CCIW championship.
